In the beginning there was the tally

Once upon a time I climbed mountains. Little ones, big ones, but never with very much enthusiasm. and certainly never regularly.

Then came the tally: 284. The Munros, just 284 mountains in Scotland over 914.4m in height. And so I began inching up the tally, much as I inched ever upwards to this or that elusive summit.

And now? The tally stands proudly at 162. Not only that, but it has been joined by another tally, that of the Corbetts, mountains in Scotland between 762m and 914.4m in height. (55, in case you’re wondering).

Set in such metric terms the ridiculousness of the sadbagger becomes clearer.

And yet still he climbs.

And, for some even more inexplicable reason, he blogs…

  1. It’s a little late in the day for this sort of thing isn’t it? Some of us were bag blogging – blagging – years ago. Do keep up Owens.

  2. Well yes, sadbagger.co.uk has been on the go now since 2003, but I felt a move into the blogosphere was in order. It means you can set RSS feeds to automatically send you all my fascinating comment. Where, then, is your blog, hmmm?
